Haiti

Then again, on a different subject, the tragedy in Haiti has been on my heart and in my prayers. Perhaps they have been on yours as well. And how to respond?
At LGBC we have decided to send money as a community. My family has supported a ministry in Haiti, called Love a Child, for many years. Love a Child ministers largely to orphans but they do all kinds of other ministry as well. They have built a hospital, a school, built houses and provide medical services and more. They do excellent work. And I am honored that they are being considered for that support. But I have already decided to send what $$ I can to Love a Child when possible.
The main thing I am concerned about is not the initial donations that Haiti will receive. Though those are indeed sorely needed. But I am very concerned about the sustained support for Haiti. We know that such support tends to last a short time. Then people seem to collectively forget about it and move on. Haiti will need substantial help for years to come. That is the challenge.
How would Jesus have us to respond?
