Wise in their own eyes

I was watching a show last night on the Science channel expounding on some aspects of Stephen Hawking’s theories and ideas. Most of it was fascinating. But I was saddened as Hawking told how he believes that the universe was essentially created by nothing. He had more complex ways of saying it, but that’s essentially what it amounted to. And Hawking and the narrator of the show made certain to point out that there was no Creator involved. More, it was the product of natural processes. Hawking is one of few scientists who are willing to apply this kind of supposition pre big bang.
This is not the first I’ve heard of this from Hawking. It’s not that surprising as Hawking is a devout Atheist. Here is a Hawking quote:
“The universe can spontaneously create itself out of nothing” — Stephen Hawking
Pretty classic atheist assertions. Nothing new there really. Atheists have been making those kind of preposterous claims for a long time. It was yet another reminder of how some people can be so intelligent and yet so blinded. How people can believe in crazy ideas of the universe in all it’s complexity appearing spontaneously. I don’t have that kind of faith.
Interestingly, near the end of the show, Hawking admitted that he doesn’t know why the Earth has just the ideal conditions for life to occur. Why indeed!
I don’t want to end by bashing Hawking. In fact, I should say that we can all fall into the same trap if we aren’t careful. We can very easily become practical atheists by saying we believe and yet denying Christ with our lack of devotion to Him. In effect, we assume that we know everything. Assume things about God as if He needs to conform to our standards. Hardly! Who is God, Yahweh…or us? Second I should say that I found the show inspiring. Inspiring b/c I can see the hand of God in the universe. And all that string theory stuff, and black holes etc….are all Him. Which is amazing and astounding! What an amazing Creator the Most High is!

I am currently reading a book by a christian astro physicist. I wanted to be knowledgable if discussing these things with atheists. It is facinating to read of the amazing size and wondrousness[is that a word?] of Gods creation. But there are so many things that can’t be explained[ like, as you pointed out,the fact that all conditions on earth are designed for life] that apparently more and more scientists are realising science doesn’t and never can explain everything and looking for a great Creator to explain things. We must pray for Stephen Hawkins and that the Lord will open his eyes.
