The Vision

Read and spoke Pete Greig’s poem the Vision last night as part of the Pentecost service.  It was a last minute addition.  And though it was long…I couldn’t not read the whole thing.  I think it punctuated the missional aspect of Pentecost so well.  Very moving!  Even as I was reading and speaking it I […]

The Holy Ghost is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

Years ago I heard a brief recording of Katherine Koulman.  She said it in her near freaky-dramatic delivery style that made it so much more striking.  It went something like this: “Kids today say their car is awesome or their favorite rock band is awesome.  But God is ……A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!!!” Let me tell you, I nearly […]

Broader shoulders please, Lord

Came across this anonymous Jewish Proverb: I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders Jesus did say to come to Him all who are heavy laden and He will give us rest.  And it has been said there are more passages in the Bible that speak God seeing us through hardship as […]

Scarcity and mowing

Some of you know that I hate mowing.  I could point to my allergies that plague me during the process or the fact that I have a mower that isn’t working very well.  But that’s not the real reason that I hate it.  I don’t like mowing because I don’t like mowing. And every now […]

Bigger dreams

It’s time to dream bigger dreams.  It’s time to allow for the dreams of God to grow in us.  We should not be halted by the unknown, or fears, or other limitations.  What purpose does God have for us?  What are the words in His lover’s song right now?  He is calling…we must follow.

May our hands be your hands

Preparing for the lesson on Saturday, I came across the following prayer, and was moved by it.  Here it is (slightly altered):  Ancient legend says that before Christ left the earth he told his disciples: I have no hands but yours, I have no eyes but yours, I have no lips but yours, I have no feet but yours. […]

Circle Me Lord

I wrote the following prayer some time ago.  And I thought I could really use it right now…to chant and reflect on: Circle me, Lord, Let my focus be upon my tasks, And away from all distractions.  Circle me, Lord, Place all of my mind upon my work, And away from littleness of mind.    Circle […]

Christian artist or artist who is Christian?

Jon Reid has a very good post on the topic of “Christian artist vs. artist that just so happens to be Christian”. I wrote the following in reply: That’s a tough one. I think it is true that is a great deal of cheesy crap that called Christian fiction.  I do think a LOT of […]

I'll pray about it

I was on the phone with a friend yesterday.  He invited me to a sky diving trip that’s going to be in the summer sometime.  I told him that I have no desire what so ever to fling my body out of plane at thousands of feet in the air.  But he wouldn’t let it […]

Trek is AWESOME!

Just got back from seeing the new Star Trek film.  It was phenomenal.  And even though it’s a reboot…it still holds to many of the Trek traditions.  All the actors did well.  I really liked Zachary Quinto as Spock, Kirk was great, Sulu was great, Scotty was hilarious…and Dr. McCoy was awesome!  Lots of stuff […]
