TV

Y’know, I just realized that I missed LOST last week.  I am going to a local church support group on the Thursday nights (yes, the same night as my current favorite show).  Now you know I’m dedicated if I’m willing miss LOST!  It does help that one can watch missed episodes on the ABC website.  […]

Update

I had Lasik surgery on my eyes yesterday.  I was pretty nervous going in.  And for a short time during the surgery you actually become blind.  It was pretty trippy.  But never fear!  I am fine.  And remarkably I can see without glasses!  That is astounding!!!! Sadly, my church officially ends tomorrow.  I’ve seen this […]

Not my will

Today is good Friday. And death figures prominently in this day’s memories. Well, and like it or not, death figures prominently in the Christian faith. We are told, for example that we must die to ourselves. That those who die to themselves are the ones who will live. We must pick up our crosses and […]

Sole criterion

Just came from reading a blog post by Alan Hirsch who wrote the following thoughts as Easter approaches: As we come to Easter, we are reminded of the absolute place that Jesus has over our minds, hearts, lives, and imaginations. Listen to the ever-worshipful Lesslie Newbigin here: That which is disclosed in Jesus Christ is […]

Holy kiss

I gave a dollar to a homeless guy yesterday while waiting at a red light.  And he did something I’ve never experienced before.  He took my hand that was extended out of the window and kissed and it and said with emotion “God bless you, Brother!”.  And I was overcome with emotion as well.  The […]

He'll show up

I woke up this morning and remembered that day light savings took effect today. Spring forward and all that. A loss of one hour. It’s a reminder to me that all time is indeed precious. Every day…in deed…every moment we have is a gift. And so I receive it as such. Some years ago, the […]

Radio Fire

Gosh, it’s been nearly a full week since I’ve posted last. Went to church tonight and helped out at a youth event. A local band named Radio Fire was playing. They were pretty good! What was amazing is that they played 80s alt type music. They looked like they stepped out of a time machine […]

Misfit heroes

I’ve always had a fondness for the misfit heroes.  I guess that’s why I’ve always liked the X-men (in the image above), the Inhumans, and more recently, DC’s Doom Patrol.  And it is so very interesting that all of these characters arose of the Silver Age of comics.  I find the commentary of the culture in the US at time to […]
