Halloween
Today is Halloween. Noah, Sasha, and Jesse are very excited. Noah woke up jabbering excitedly about trick or treating and his field trip at school. He said “Daddy, I get two Halloween things today!â€. I spent a good part of last Saturday making the kids’ costumes. They are going to be dice (the kind you roll [...]

TX to UK
My friend Claire, formally of the Cooper Institute is in the process of moving to London with her husband. They are blogging about it here. Won’t you join them in their journey? Anyone have any advice for them. I think they’ve a place to live already. But any other guidance I’m sure would be appreciated.

All the Christs I've loved before
The following is in response to Justin’s Which Christ post. Guess it inspired me. I’ll apologize in advance for it’s length. But first just a disclaimer. Please, please note that I am not saying there is really more than one Christ. Of course, there is just one all encompassing, bright Christ. But there are, however, many perceptions [...]

Divine Hours online
Awhile back I found Phyllis Tickle’s Divine Hours on line. I was drawn there again today…and thought you might like to have it as a resource. Very nice of Phyllis to allow her popular Divine Hours (a liturgical daily office prayer series) to be posted on in cyberspace. The site posts the appropriate, morning, midday, or evening office [...]

sacred cyber spaces
Heard a report on NPR last Saturday that fascinated me. The authors of a book called Smart Bomb discussed some ways that Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games (or MMORPGs) are offering new realties to adventurers. Perhaps most interesting was the mentioning of how people immersed in MMORPGs are beginning to intersect with RL [...]

Some source of hope
My heart is heavy within me today. There is so much evil in the world. So much wickedness. Endless cycles of oppression, pain, violence, suffering etc. The nightmare of the cold war, the threat of nuclear holocaust has arisen again. AIDS, genocidal wars, crime, shooting in school yards…Where does it end? Victimization of the innocent and helpless…children [...]

In the quiet
15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in …resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.” - Isaiah 30:15 (NLT) Sunday evening I went to visit a group that practices centering prayer. They meet in a local Catholic Church but welcome all followers [...]

Restaurant community
Ate at Olive Garden last night. Our waitress spoke with a Russian accent. I asked her where she was originally from and she confirmed the national origin. And I couldn’t help but notice our waitress was wearing a woven bracelet that had a small wooden cross dangling from a loose cord from the bracelet. I liked it, [...]

Darfur add
Yesterday I was thumbing through USA Today and found a full page add asking for the Bush administration to do something about Darfur. The add said something like “Evangelicals for relief in Darfur”. What caught my attention was two emerging church guys in there, Brian McClaren and Rob Bell. Good on them for that! And [...]
